FAQs: Adoption and Bringing Home a New Cat

« Back to Scooter’s Help Center
Check out your local humane society or county shelter. Not only will you give a homeless cat or kitten a home, but most shelters make sure your new cat is up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered and microchipped. If you live in Cincinnati, Dayton or Northern Kentucky, check these organizations where you can adopt a cat or kitten.

To help your cat make the best transition into your home, we recommend starting out with the following supplies:

  • Litter box with litter
  • Food and water bowls
  • Dry or wet cat food
  • Comfy bed
  • Cat carrier
  • Collar with an ID tag
  • Scratching post
  • Various toys for entertainment
  • Cat comb or brush for grooming
Bringing a new cat home is exciting, but can be a little stressful for your new little family member. It may take a few days or even a few months for your new cat to feel comfortable in his or her new home. To help make the transition as smooth as possible, check out this article with a timeline on how to introduce a new cat.
