Joanie Bernard Foundation’s $1 million donation helps make new Boone County Animal Shelter a reality

Thanks in part to a generous donation of $1 million from the Joanie Bernard Foundation, the Boone County Animal Shelter announced on Nov. 15 the launch of a capital campaign to raise funding to construct a new, more modern building and grounds in that Northern Kentucky County. The money donated by the foundation is part of the estimated $6 million that will be needed to make the new shelter a reality.

Ten Movement Chair Deborah Cribbs and Scooter the Neutered Cat joined the Humane Society of Greater Dayton to celebrate the ribbon cutting on its newly expanded campus. The Joanie Bernard Foundation Spay/Neuter Clinic will allow the center to scale up its community cat initiative, which currently performs 4,000+ play/neuter surgeries. Over the next decade, the nonprofit will increase surgeries by 400% as a way to humanely and effectively battle cat overpopulation and improve the lives of community cats in Greater Dayton.

Scooter the Neutered Cat joined his friends from the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati (IHNGC) for the nonprofit's Pawty Pawlooza at Otto Armleder Dog Park Saturday, Sept. 25. The annual “pawty” supports IHNGC's Pet Support Program to help families experiencing homeless keep their dog, cat or other small companion animals with them during their shelter stay rather than surrendering their pets to animal shelters or leaving them behind.
